About

Jo-Marshall-bathtutor-320

I am an experienced and Ofsted ‘outstanding’ rated English teacher providing one-to-one tuition in Bath for pupils aged 7-16 years old (Key Stages 2,3 and 4) in English Language and Literature.

I am warm, approachable and upbeat and have a good understanding of how children learn. I am experienced in working with children with a wide range of different needs and from different backgrounds including children with English as a second language.

Many of my students struggle in the classroom environment due to specific learning difficulties or emotional needs and I am skilled at figuring out where they need help and what will help them to feel happy about themselves and learning so that they are able to thrive. I can work in conjunction with schools and parents to help devise plans for students to make sure that we are working together in the most effective way.

I studied my Post Graduate Certificate of Education at the University of London’s Institute of Education and went on to teach at one of London’s best state schools.I am very experienced in preparing students for GCSE at all ability levels. For the past thirteen years I have been tutoring pupils aged from 7-16 years old in English Literature and Language as well as specifically for GCSE and Common Entrance exams for schools including Westminster Under, Millfield,  City of London School and in Bath, schools including Kingswood and King Edward’s.

I have studied a short term course on Dyslexia/Specific Learning Difficulties and while I am not a dyslexia specialist, I am able to recognise dyslexia and provide help and recommendations to a certain level.

I have an up to date DBS certificate.
