About

Jo-Marshall-bathtutor-320

I am an experienced and Ofsted ‘outstanding’ rated English teacher providing one-to-one tuition in Bath and beyond for pupils aged 10-16 years old (Key Stages 2,3 and 4) in English Language and Literature.

I am warm, approachable and upbeat and have a good understanding of how children learn. I am experienced in working with children with a wide range of different needs and from different backgrounds including children with English as a second language.

Some of my students struggle in the classroom environment due to specific learning difficulties or emotional needs and I am skilled at figuring out where they need help and what will help them to feel happy about themselves and learning so that they are able to thrive. I can work in conjunction with schools and parents to help devise plans for students to make sure that we are working together in the most effective way.

I studied my Post Graduate Certificate of Education at the University of London’s Institute of Education and went on to teach at one of London’s best state schools.I am very experienced in preparing students for GCSE at all ability levels. For the past fourteen years, I have been tutoring pupils aged from 10-16 years old in English Literature and Language. I provide GCSE preparation for pupils in schools including Beechen Cliff, Hayesfield and Ralph Allen. I also do GCSE and common entrance preparation for pupils at schools including King Edward’s, Kingswood and Prior Park. I am familiar with most of the exam board requirements and texts.

I have studied a short term course on Dyslexia/Specific Learning Difficulties and while I am not a dyslexia specialist, I am able to recognise dyslexia and provide help and recommendations to a certain level. I am passionate about literature and love Shakespeare and poetry in particular.

I have an up to date DBS certificate.

I charge £40 an hour.
